Q: Is it okay to drink smoothies while I'm on a juice cleanse?

A: One word: YES! While smoothies are different from juices, it is absolutely more than acceptable to include plant-based superfood smoothies while on a juice cleanse.
Many people struggle with staying on a pure juice cleanse - the reasons being very simple: juices contain no fiber, no fat, and no proteinâ€¦all of which are macronutrients that are essential to everyday basic body functions! While the nature of a cleanse is by no means assumed a permanent diet for anyone, even lasting a few days using this level of dietary restriction can prove to be a challenge -- especially while pursuing a busy, active lifestyle. This is where smoothies come in.
Including a superfood smoothie or two a day while on a juice cleanse can be a very effective way to make a juice cleanse more palatable. By easing in just a small amount of the remaining macronutrients via the blender, the body's energy levels are kept high, and satiation is better maintained throughout the day. You can even use some of your cleanse-ready juice as part of the base of your smoothie, and blend in some additional superfoods like goji berries, chia seeds, or hemp protein. The fact that these superfoods have been partially broken down and liquefied by the blender will continue to support easy digestion, and cleansing efforts will not be majorly effected.
Remember, the goal of a cleanse is to flush out the bad, and replace it with the good and new. And nothing is more â€œgoodâ€ than superfoods!
