Here are the Top 3 Superfoods for All-Day Energy

Posted by Julie Morris, Navitas Organics Executive Chef on Jan 22, 2019 7:51:58 AM

When you ask most people what they wish they had more of throughout the day, one of the leading responses is always energy. Lots of things in life zap our energy, including stress, poor nutrition, not getting enough exercise and chronic health conditions – all of which affect daily wellness. However, one of the best (and easiest) ways to feel full-of-life from morning to night is to add superfoods to your diet, which boost your nutrition without a hassle or major commitment.

All superfoods will enhance how you feel in some way, but some really help you go the extra mile…or at least feel like you could! So, if you’re looking to feel a bit more energetic, here are the three superfoods to consider including more of in your diet.

1. Matcha
If you’re looking for a healthier and more nutrient-rich alternative to coffee, look no further than Matcha. This superfood is a finely ground powder made from high-quality green tea leaves that's packed with a delicate tea-like flavor and high nutrient density. In fact, just one cup of Matcha has the antioxidant and nutritional content of about 10 full glasses of regular green tea!

Matcha is a top pick for energy because it contains both caffeine and L-theanine to provide your body with calm energy and focus. The caffeine content of Matcha is minimal (only 16 mg per serving), which is just enough to get you going in the morning without making you jittery. Meanwhile, the L-theanine balances your body out by helping you remain calm and enhancing your concentration and memory. Warm up this winter with a Matcha Latte, and enjoy the cool-calm energy of Matcha all day.

2. Cacao
Cacao is another wonderful energy-boosting food, primarily because of its high theobromine content. Researchers have found that theobromine is associated with energy increases, while also decreasing the risk of high blood pressure. When combined with safe amounts of caffeine, such as that contained in Matcha, theobromine has also shown great promise in supplying the body with long-lasting energy during exercise.

This powerful superfood comes in many forms, including Cacao Powder, Cacao Nibs and even Cacao Butter – all of which have a rich chocolate taste with no added sugar. Energize your mind, body and spirit with a Cacao-rich Chocolate Cinnamon Latte in the morning or a bowl of Nutty Chocolate Oats to warm you up and help you feel satisfyingly full all morning long.

3. Maca
If you can only add one superfood to your regular diet for more energy, you may want to make it Maca. Maca is an amazing adaptogen that helps you fight stress – an important feature considering stress is one of the biggest causes of energy loss throughout the day. Also called Peruvian ginseng, Maca supports your body’s natural resilience and boosts the function of your endocrine system, making this ingredient the perfect food for an energizing breakfast.
Navitas’ easy-to-digest Maca Powder comes from finely milled whole Maca root that has been slow-dried at low temperatures. It can be added to pancake batter, cereals, nut butters and yogurt to give your favorite meals a superfood punch. Other fun ways to incorporate more Maca into your days is to embrace the smoothie trend and whip up an energizing Pitaya Maca Smoothie Bowl or a Crazy Monkey Smoothie for breakfast or as a quick pick-me-up snack.

A Hot Breakfast Idea for Every Day of Your Work Week

Posted by Julie Morris, Navitas Organics Executive Chef on Feb 26, 2018 2:29:04 AM

When it comes to making an easy, healthy breakfast, warm weather arguably has the upper hand. Smoothies, yogurt bowls or even just a whole grain cereal with a splash of almond milk are all no-brainer ideas for a cooling start to a warm day. But as soon as winter weather hits, “healthy” can seem like a bit of a harder ask, especially in the wee hours of the day. As your body yearns for denser foods served at a more cozy temperature, good breakfast options may become less apparent, leading to more indulgent choices.

And yet, with a little creativity, the healthy hot breakfast menu is more abundant than you may think. Here are some of our favorite dishes that can help support you on your wellness journey in the most comforting of ways.

Porridges
Sorry, but porridge is definitely not just the stuff of old English fairy tales. In fact, porridge has begun to make a name for itself amongst many of the world's top chefs, thanks to its flexible nature and instinctual yum-factor. While the most common type of porridge is oatmeal, all kinds of other grains and pseudo-grains can be used for the spoonable base, including rolled quinoa, cracked buckwheat, amaranth, rice and barley. And while many people still enjoy a classic porridge with a little bit of dried or fresh fruit and spices, porridges also make fantastic savory dishes – try mixing in Hemp Seeds, coconut oil and sea salt for a deliciously nutty variation.

Five Superfoods That Help Reduce Stress

Posted by Julie Morris, Navitas Organics Executive Chef on Feb 13, 2018 9:41:00 PM

We’ve all been there: it’s a stressful day, and suddenly reaching for a bag of chips or a plate of cookies becomes borderline instinctual. Although comfort foods might give us an instant feeling of satisfaction, nutrient-dense foods can fight stress on a much deeper level. So many of our favorite superfoods (packed with vitamins, minerals and nutrients) can support the body holistically, which ease the mind and body long-term. Read on for some of the best superfoods you can eat to fight stress and get your day back on track!

Cacao
We know Cacao is the foundation of all chocolate products, and an exceptional source of healthy antioxidants and minerals. But it’s Cacao’s impressive magnesium content that makes it a particularly good stress fighter. Foods high in magnesium have been proven to relax the muscles, help ease tension, and reduce aches and pain associated with stress.

There are so many ways to incorporate Cacao into desserts, but don’t forget it’s also a great ingredient to add to a morning smoothie to start the day on the right note. Try turning a standard smoothie into a stress-fighting shake with Cacao and other healthy ingredients! Other high-magnesium foods on the savory end of the food spectrum include kelp, wheat bran, almonds, Cashews, buckwheat and garlic.

Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass is naturally very alkaline, which relieves inflammation and promotes a calmer state of mind and body. Not only that, but Navitas Organics Wheatgrass Powder contains a whopping 70 minerals and vitamins, hundreds of live enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants, which help put the body in a state of balance. For a one-way ticket to your “happy place,” try my Warm Detox Juice to de-stress and regain focus.

The Magic of Matcha

Posted by Arthur Mullin on May 30, 2017 1:53:00 AM

Matcha’s popularity is growing super fast - not just among green tea purists, but also with less fanatical tea drinkers who are becoming more and more aware of its profound health benefits. Considering how costly it can be compared to conventional green tea, however, some may question if it is worth it. For so many reasons, the answer is a resounding yes.

To start, Matcha is made from the Camellia sinensis tea plant, grown exclusively in the mountains of Japan where the soil and climate lend themselves to growing green tea of the highest quality. The plants are shaded before harvest, and only the smaller, top leaves are handpicked for Matcha tea.

After being deveined and de-stemmed, the leaves are dried in the shade or indoors to prevent heat from changing the nutritional properties of the tea. Slow, stone grinding also protects the tea’s potent nutritional benefits. This selective approach to cultivation, harvest and processing contributes to its oftentimes lofty price tag.

Unlike conventional green tea, which you steep in hot water, you actually drink the Matcha tea leaves themselves in the form of a finely ground powder. It provides a lush and earthy flavor, along with a healthy dose of the unique and powerful EGCG antioxidant.
