Benefits of Taking Your Yoga Practice Outdoors

Posted by Joel Orlando on Nov 17, 2017 2:17:00 AM

I have been an avid outdoorsman and multi-sport athlete for nearly my whole life; however, I am still new to yoga and the mindful lifestyle that inevitably follows its adoption. My yoga practice began three years ago like I would image it did for many twenty-something males. My girlfriend dragged me to a crowded, sweaty studio where I struggled my way through a 90-minute class with a classic ‘eccentric’ instructor. It simply didn’t work for me. It was not until I took my yoga practice outdoors that it would really ‘click.’ As a competitive person, the outdoors always meant pushing myself as hard as possible. I found enjoyment in nature, but I was not allowing myself to slow down enough to fully understand the immense effect it had on me. Outdoor yoga, specifically in nature, forced me to do just that – slow down, breathe and move.

Hiking in New England can be far more strenuous than most people envision. Our trails are unrelenting, rocky, uneven, root filled and sometimes nearly vertical. In short, leading hikes in New England is as challenging as it is rewarding, but the end goal is always to offer a real hiking experience with no frills and no gimmicks. As a co-leader of what are predominately female trips, I am often asked the question “is it weird being the only guy?" I usually smile and just shake my head no.

Finding Balance in Life

Posted by Mae Badiyan on Oct 5, 2017 2:39:34 AM

Hello Navitas family! My name is Mae and I'm so thrilled to be the Insider of the Month for October – the most magical time of year! I'm a former lawyer and entrepreneur now working in business development and digital strategy. And, most excitingly, I'm studying natural health, holistic nutrition and functional medicine.

While I’ll always be a Southern girl at heart, I've lived in some wonderful places around the world, including Chicago, Costa Rica, Israel and Los Angeles. I've had the privilege to travel to even more countries and it was those experiences, especially my trips to Asia and the Middle East, that first sparked my interest in natural remedies and foundational health. I love researching everything from superfoods to complementary medicine.

I believe that our mental and emotional wellbeing impacts our physical health just as much as the foods we eat. That's why I love Navitas’ "Live Life Positive" message, because I believe our thoughts become our reality. I regularly incorporate meditation and prayer into my morning routine, and try to set new intentions and goals for every month. I appreciate the importance of balance and consistency, so I try my best to eat organic, whole foods, but I can't resist dessert every once in a while. I know that food has the power to be medicine! I believe it's so important for the basis of our daily diets to be brightly colored vegetables, healthy fats, proteins and superfoods, like my favorites, Acai and Matcha.

Old Habits Can Die Young

Posted by Jodi Guber Brufsky on Jul 13, 2017 2:01:21 AM

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised and filled with relief by my yoga pose of choice to help improve health and happiness: Savasana, also known as Corpse Pose. Don’t let the English translation scare you! It should actually inspire you, as it is not about your body dying, but rather the death of old ways of thinking and doing. It is your opportunity for daily re-birth, as you get to “die” and begin again, giving you a chance for a fresh start.

Going Beyond with Navitas Insider Jodi Guber Brufsky

Posted by Jodi Guber Brufsky on Jul 6, 2017 1:52:08 AM

Team Navitas sat down with July Insider of the Month, Jodi Guber Brufsky – Creator, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Beyond Yoga – to find out what inspires her to Live Life Positive every day. Read on to learn how she gained her confidence over the years and which practices contributed to her health transformation.

“Who am I? That’s a simple question with a complex answer. I am so many things: a mother, a wife, a lover of life, a business owner, a daughter, a great friend. I am also an avid searcher and a researcher, which is what brought me to Navitas Organics. Before I get into that, I will share a little backstory. I grew up in the entertainment business and found myself tasked with the ongoing challenge of how to survive a sea of skinny when I was not. I mention this because this challenge, although daunting, is one that I happen to be eternally grateful for because it gave me my passion, my drive, my focus and my raison d’étre. Growing up and teaching myself how to flatter my body at any size and feel a sense of belonging (notice I didn’t say fitting in – more on that later) is what inspired me to create Beyond Yoga – an activewear and lifestyle brand for today’s modern woman, designed to fit and flatter many body shapes and sizes. Our mission is to empower women to love themselves as they are today. It is so important to love who you are from the inside out and usually the outside will follow.

Eleven years later and growing, our mission has helped many women feel great about themselves on and off the mat. Today, I continue spreading this message outside of the business by hosting female-attended salons with speakers in health and wellness. As a searcher and researcher, I am always seeking out the newest and latest from astrology and yoga to healthy cooking and medicine readings. This allows me to take what I love and share it with the intention to cultivate deeper connections and more meaningful conversations. I have found that when you are your authentic self and love that self, you find that you no longer need to try to fit in; you will naturally attract those that are like-minded and a sense of belonging takes over.
